| Japan`s First-Half textile exports fall 21 percent |
Japanese exports of textile goods during January-June 2009, as compiled by the Japan Textiles Exporters Association based on Ministry of Finance trade statistics, decreased by 21% year on year to US$3,443.49 million. In Japanese currency, exports fell by 28% to 329 billion yen.

Itemwise, exports increased only for rayon staple fiber and spun synthetic yarn. Exports of acrylic staple fiber fell by 36% to US$177.72 million, along with those of synthetic filament yarn by 36% to US$258.06 million. Exports of synthetic filament fabrics decreased by 20% to US$458.76 million.
By region, exports increased only for West Asia (up 1% to US$232.92 million. Exports to East Asia declined by 20% to US$2,511.83 million, of which China decreased by 17% to US$1,360.78 million. Exports to the EU dropped 34% to US$227.40 million, and those to the U.S. by 35% to US$215.75 million.
